LOTD: Sacred Dance

I wanted to try out some of the gorgeous new Fyrinnae shadows I brought recently and this is what I came up with.

Swatches: Fyrinnae

Fyrinnae's shadows are always gorgeous, so I was really please when their newest collection, Dia De Los Muertos, was released. I picked up some of the new colours as well as a couple that I'd been meaning to try for a while.

Swatches: Meow New Collections

I'm finally back (and this time I've even queued some posts so there won't be such a big gap)! I placed a few make up orders at the beginning of the month and the first one to arrive was my order from Meow. I took advantage of one of their free shipping offers (they've got another running right now) to pick up some full sizes and some samples from their new autumn collections and their Halloween collection.

Row 2, from l-r: Perverse, Dour, Morose, Melancholy
Row 3, from l-r: Erato, Calliope, Tarnished

LOTD: Tricolore

My posting has been a bit erratic lately with various holidays and work trips. Hopefully it will calm down now and I'll be able to get back to more frequent posts.

My latest overseas excursion was to Strasbourg for work so I decided to do a tricolore inspired look but with different colours rather than the traditional red, white and blue. A few of the colours are ones I use a lot, I love them but I'm going to try and give them a break for a while and try some new stuff. If anyone has any colour suggestions let me know!

LOTD: Out in the rain

Another look using my Persephone Minerals samples. I wanted to do something nice and simple that I could use for work on days when I have meetings and other important things.

Wednesday, 29 September 2010

LOTD: Hippy Peacock

This is the first look I did with my Persephone eyeshadows. I found them easy to apply and easy to blend. Far Out, in particular, applied like a dream.

Roses and Sugar Violets

So it turns out that I only did my makeup twice in the week I was on holiday and because I'm still trying to learn how to use my camera the pictures were a bit hit and miss. The only look I have semi-decent pictures for is this one, using a mix of Fyrinnae and Morgana products. I hadn't used any of my Morgana stuff for a while and this reminded me how great it is. I'm now very excited for the store reopening, especially after seeing the lipstick previews on Twitter

Swatches: Persephone Minerals

There have been no posts for a while because I've been enjoying the Cornish coast with some friends. I have a couple of looks from my holiday but not many because I spent most of the week slobbing around the house we'd rented or chilling out on the beach sans makeup. Before I put up the looks, though, I wanted to share the swatches I did this morning of my Persephone Minerals sample.

LOTD: Smokin' in the City

Another simple, quick look from me. I can't seem to drag myself out of bed in time to do something more creative and still make it to work on time!

LOTD: Fairy Greens

I've not really used my Aromaleigh Lost in Faerie samples over the summer, which is a shame because they're gorgeous. I was having a green day today so I dug them out and picked out the gorgeous greens in the collection.

LOTD: Týr and the Changeling

I wanted to try a smoky eye toady, seeing as I din't have to be in work and so it didn't matter if it went wrong. I've also been wanting to use Changeling, the free sample I got with my last Fyrinnae order, ever since I swatched it.

LOTD: Nearly Nude

As much as I love playing with bright, colourful makeup, sometimes I need a simple look I can do in no time at all. I had one of those times today when I realised, as I was getting ready, that I should have left my flat about 10 minutes earlier.

LOTD: Daemon Rose

I left work a bit later than usual yesterday, so I had my first walk home in the dark since the spring. Crossing the Thames and seeing all the lights along the river always feels very autumnal to me and the colours I picked for today's makeup were also quite autumnal.

LOTD: Immortal Stardust

I've been meaning to post for several days now but have been slightly scuppered by the fact I've been trying to use my new Fyrinnae shadows. Immortality and Delvian, in particular, are gorgeous but need more careful application than my normal 'slap it on and see' approach. I decided to use Immortality again today. As well as trying to be more precise with my application, I decided to follow the example of several makeup bloggers and apply my eyeshadow before the rest of my makeup. It worked really well in terms of making it easier to clean up the look but I couldn't believe how much difference putting some blusher on made to the overall look.

Swatches: Fyrinnae

I'm a bit behind on posting and reading blogs - I was in Canterbury for a couple of days and then I got food poisoning :( I'm still a feeling a bit uninspired makeup wise but my latest Fyrinnae order arrived today so I decided to swatch that.

LOTD: Twinkle, twinkle little skull

Every time I see an EOTD from Fashionedinfinland I think how nice the colour placement she uses is. I decided to try it out myself today and even without her blending skills I think it worked quite well. I also decided to use Sugar Skulls again because I don't think the last look I did showed it off properly.

LOTD: Sugar Crickets

I'm still completely in love with Fyrinnae's Rapunzel Had Extensions so I decided to use it again today. It was actually sunny, possible for the last time this year, so I decided to do a bright summer look.

LOTD: Rapunzel's Roses

My Fyrinnae order arrived a couple of days ago and I was excited (above and beyond normal new makeup excitement) because it contained a full size of Rapunzel Had Extensions.  I've seen a few people do looks using this colour and it always looks really pretty but it's even prettier in real life. I also got a full size of Painted Roses and a sample of Velvet Vampire so I decided to try them all out together for my look today.

LOTD: Rockin' Coffin

After swatching them a couple of days ago I finally got round to using some of my new Evil Shades makeup. I absolutely love it, I found the shadows really easy to use and the lipstick nice and creamy.

LOTD: Holiday looks part 2

First, apologies to anyone who commented in the past few days. I did reply but then managed, almost immediately, to delete all the comments for the past few weeks thus proving, yet again, that I can't really be trusted with technology and will sometimes press buttons when I really shouldn't.

Now, onto the last of my holiday looks. They're both quite yellow; it must have be the (lack of) sunshine in Kent.

Swatches: Evil Shades

I was very please when I got back from holiday to find my Evil Shades order waiting for me at home. I'd heard good things about the company and was excited about trying them out. I really like the items I ordered.

I got seven lipstick samples and four full size eyeshadows. My order came with two free samples - an eyeshadow and a sample of one of Evil Shades' new Stars glitter.

LOTD: Holiday looks

I was obviously in a purple and yellow mood when I was on holiday; I did two yellow looks and two purple looks. I've decided to group them together and today I'm posting the purple looks. Fewer photos that usual (and even worse than they normally are) because I was, without fail, always the last one ready and hurrying to get out of the door.

The first look is purpley-taupe.

LOTD: Greenmen in the Rainforest

I've been enjoying a lovely week in Kent with my mum, nana and aunt so I haven't been posting. I have been playing around with my makeup, though, so I have a backlog of looks to post. The first one was my second attempt to use Adam and Steve's. It still doesn't capture how vibrant and pretty the colour is but it comes closer than my last attempt.

Friday, 13 August 2010

LOTD: Platinum Ghost

I decided I wanted to do a sparkly eye today. Platinum and Phantasm are two of the sparkliest colours I have so I decided to combine them.

Wednesday, 11 August 2010

Swatches: Morgana Minerals Lipstick (or 'Gosh, that's a lot of purple')

I decided to play around with some of my Morgana Minerals lipsticks today. I have two full sizes, Azalea and Shrieking Violet, the rest are samples. It wasn't until I started swatching that I realised how many purples I had.

All the lipsticks were applied directly onto bare lips (and just in case anyone wanted to know, this is what my bare lips look like).

Tuesday, 10 August 2010

LOTD: Ogre Princess

I finally managed to see Shrek Forever After at the cinema today so I decided to do a smoky green an orange look in honour of Princess Fiona.

Monday, 9 August 2010

LOTD: Electric Kick

I didn't do my makeup today until quite late, when I know I wouldn't be going out again, so I decided to try one of the Morgana Minerals lip colours that I don't have the chance to wear in my everyday life.

LOTD: Sundown

A few days ago I saw an amazing sunset eye on Scrangie's blog. Partly inspired by that and partly prompted by the fact it's chucking down with rain here for the first time in about a month (contrary, I know) I decided to have a go at my own sunset eye. It didn't really work out like I wanted it to but I'm posting it anyway.

Swatches: Meow eyeshadows pt 2

I've finished swatching the last half of my Meow eye shadows. This post has a motley combination of special and limited collection colours and free samples.

Thursday, 5 August 2010

Swatches: Meow eyeshadows pt 1

I'm making my way through my shadows and swatching them. I decided to do some of my Meow colours - the Cat Eyes and Ideal eyes.

LOTD: Very Violet

A while ago I placed an order with Morgana Minerals. I mostly wanted to get some lipstick samples but to get my order value up to the minimum I also picked a couple of eyeshadow samples. When they arrived I though they looked pretty and then put them aside. I've finally got round to using one of the colours and I'm impressed, I'll have to add Morgana Minerals to the ever growing list of places I want to buy stuff from.

LOTD: Jungle Ideal

I was trying to tidy my make-up box this morning (trying being the operative word) and realised that I had a load of Meow samples that I hadn't used at all. I decided do a look using Meow's Bromeliad because it's such a pretty colour and one I've been wanting to try for a while.

Product Review: Ciaté Paint Pots

have a bit of a thing about nail varnish - I love my nails being painted but I'm really bad at painting them and far too impatient to wait for polish to dry properly. Polish tends to last a day, at most, without chipping and it's quite common for me to have wrecked my hands within a couple of hours of painting them.

Nevertheless, I persevere and recently I've been hearing really good things about Ciaté.

LOTD: Jiminy

It's been almost a week since I posted anything, partly because I've been busy and partly because my camera had a hissy-fit and refused to switch on. It finally seems to be working so I decided to celebrate by doing a look with Aromaleigh's Cricket. I don't use it that much but it's one of my favourite colours; it's the exact same shade of green as the pair of shoes I bought to celebrate finishing my degree.

LOTD: Mellow Yellow

I had a bit of a crappy day on Monday and my so my lovely friend Sara gave me the flower she'd been wearing in her hair to cheer me up. It survived pretty well overnight so yesterday I decided to wear it and do a happy yellow eye to go with it.

LOTD: Leopard-Print Dress

I love this look using Fyrinnae shadows. I even got a compliment on it from a woman at my local salon. Unfortunately, I was trying to take the pictures in my mum's house in the five minutes before I had to run out of the door and they didn't turn out particularly well but I'm still going to post it.

Swatches: Fyrinnae Lip Lustres

In my last Fyrinnae order I got samples of some of the Lip Lustres and I really like them. I was a bit worried that they would be too gloss-like for me (I really don't like lip gloss) but they aren't. The colour pay off is great. My one wish is that there were more mattes. I'm not a fan of sparkly lip colour and most of the shades have some shimmer. Fortunately for me most of the colours are less shimmery on than they are in the tube.

LOTD: Pink Petals

Every so often, two things happen. One is that I forget that my skills with eyeliner are, at best, limited. The other thing is that I have the urge to do some variation on the classic matte red lips-light shadow-black eyeliner combination. On this particular occasion there was also a third factor in my decision to try this look; I have an interview tomorrow and wanted to see if I could manage 'polished and elegant' rather than 'clown let loose with felt-tip pens'.

LOTD: Electric Fire

I wanted to try a look today using colours I wouldn't normally put together. Blue and orange seemed to be a nice summer combination. I've also been wanting to use Fyrinnae's Warrior-Mage Arcane Magic shadow for a while but I hadn't quite managed to work it into a look so I decided to use it here.

Tuesday, 20 July 2010

LOTD: Isadora Lost

I decided I wanted to focus on a single colour on my eyes today. Fortunately, I was spared from having to decide which colour to focus on when I realised that one of my few clean work tops was pink. It also gave me a chance to try out some more of the lovely Aromaleigh Lost in Faerie colours. Also, I wish I could say that the variety of that lighting in these photographs was deliberate but it's really just because I can't use my camera properly.

LOTD: Going for Gold

Today I decided to stick to one colour and, influenced by the unusually hot (so, so hot) weather we've been having, dig out some of my underused metallic colours. I always tend to think of gold and similar colours as quite plain and usually only use them combined with something else but this look reminded me that they're actually really pretty on their own.

LOTD: Leopards, Toucans and Doves, oh my!

Technically, this is my look of yesterday. I had the great pleasure of going to the wedding of two friends and a lovely time was had by all.

LOTD:Sonic Pajamas

When I first started really getting into mineral make-up I was a bit dismayed to see how many of the shades were shimmery (that dismay didn't last long; I soon learnt to love glitter). When I came across the Aromaleigh Retro Hi-Fi collection I was thrilled - bright, beautiful colours but with a matte finish. As soon as I got my hands on a sample set, Cat's Pajamas became a firm favourite. I love corals and this one is close to perfect. I bought a couple of matte shades from the Sonic Rocks collection with this colour combination in mind and this is one of my standard looks for when I want lots of colour but no shimmer.

LOTD: Sorrow in Faerie

My first look of the day is a bit of an unusual one for me. I don't tend to use pale greens like Elodie from Aromaleigh's Lost in Faerie is such a lovely colour that I wanted to use it as the basis for a look. Unfortunately, my photography skills still leave a lot to be desired but this is the best of the bunch.

Fyrinnae Arcane Magic Swatches

So, mighty oaks from little acorns grow as the old saying would have it and I'm hoping that a decent blog from my crappy swatch photographs might (eventually) grow. My eyeshadow collection has expanded massively over the past few months. The first set of shadows I've chosen to swatch are from Fyrinnae. Below are the seven Arcane Magic colours I've tried so far.

From left to right they are - Electric Stardust, Stormbringer, Warrior-Mage, Greenman's Forest, Pyromantic Erotica, Leopard-Print Galaxy and Trickery. They were all brushed on over Pixie Epoxy.

Both these were taken with no flash, indoors with natural light.

Both of these were taken with flash.

What you can't really see from these pictures is that the colours in the Arcane Magic range change depending on how close they are to a light source. My favourites so far are Leopard-Print Galaxy, Pyromantic Erotica and Stormbringer. I'm looking forward to trying some of the other colours from this collection.
Hi to anyone stumbling across this.
I’ve recently started getting into mineral make-up in a big way and, inspired by the many fabulous make-up bloggers out there, decided to start my own make-up blog. Expect swatches, looks and reviews to be coming soon.
